Neck Pain

Neck Pain : Deltachiropracticanddecompression.com

wo-third of our global population is affected by neck pain. Diagnosis and treatment of neck pain conditions are the second largest sector of the chiropractic profession. Diagnosing for a chronic neck pain is bit hard and the treatment includes various procedures. Causes of Neck pain

There are many types of neck pain. Some of them may be as a result of previous neck injuries like whiplash or arthritic degeneration.

The main causes of chronic neck pain are disc desiccation - Abnormal dryness of the discs, herniations - A tear in the outer, fibrous ring of an intervertebral disc allows the soft, central portion to bulge out, osteoarthritis - degradation of the joint.

Other types of neck pain involve spinal postural concerns, cervical spondylolisthesis, and acute spasm. Neck pain is also caused from physical and emotional health problems.

Symptoms

If chronic neck pain is not treated initially, it may develop neurological symptoms. This includes numbness, tingling, or a pins and needles feeling. It also can be felt in the fingertips or up and down the arm. This indicates that the neck problem is getting serious.

People have to understand that there is so much stress on their neck to support their 12 - 14 pound head, and it has very fewer amounts of muscular stabilization in the spine. Thus a whiplash type injury has severe effects.

The National Center for Alternative and Complementary Medicine (NCCAM) says that most people go to a doctor complaining about neck pain.

CAM medicines are very beneficial and used by the majority of the people because it works well in conjunction with more traditional type treatment, other treatments are not effective. They give unsatisfactory results. They are less expensive in comparison to traditional treatment, and it is suggested by conventional medical professionals.

Treatment

There are different types of treatment for back pain and neck pain. They range from taking medications to undergoing surgery procedures.

If you are suffering with a neck pain, then consult a chiropractor. Chiropractic is beneficial for acute and chronic neck disorders.

Initially, during consultation, a chiropractor asks for a number of questions and will perform a physical examination. This examination may consist of chiropractic tests, orthopedic tests, and a neurological examination. The chiropractor also performs x-ray of the spine, sometimes a CT or MRI scans and other diagnostic imaging tests for collecting possible information about the problem. After checking you completely with essential tests, chiropractor suggests treatment and other recommendations for your specific condition.

The treatment will depend on the severity of the pain and discomfort. If the pain is acute or sudden, he or she may require the use of a collar and bed rest for first 24 hours and use of ice for 72 hours.

Self care and other additional treatments will be determined by severity of the problem. Being more active is better for spinal disorders than taking prolonged bed rest. Chronic neck pain that involves over months or years or a low grade pain can be treated by exposing the neck to heat, if you are not relieved then treat with ice. Physical therapy treatment and a home exercise program can also be used in addition to pain reduction treatments.

Thus neck pain has severe effects and should be treated initially.
